Inspired by Chinese art

As I continue to evolve in my drawing practice, I admire the timeless beauty and philosophical depth of traditional Chinese painting. The harmony between nature and humanity, the fluidity of lines, and the emphasis on simplicity and essence resonate deeply with my artistic vision, which is minimalist. By incorporating these elements into my work, I aim to explore the subtle interplay between spontaneity and control, a hallmark of Chinese brushwork.

The use of negative space, the delicate balance between light and shadow, and the minimalistic approach in Chinese painting inspire me to create pieces that convey not just what I see but what I feel.

I focus on mastering the use of ink and brush, experimenting with the “four treasures”—the brush, ink, paper, and inkston. All these can bring a sense of calm and meditative quality to my art. (Note that rather than using ink I use a simple pen.)

Through this integration, I hope to infuse my drawings with the elegance, grace, and depth characteristic of Chinese art, while also bringing a fresh, contemporary perspective to these ancient techniques. This journey is not just about adopting a new style, but about embracing a holistic way of seeing and representing the world around me.
